Richard A. “Dick” Maxwell, came to BGSU after graduating from Fostoria (Ohio) High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1970 and went on to a successful career in the sport communication industry. He worked in public relations for the Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before moving into the NFL Commissioner’s Office in 1978. After 36 years in professional football, Maxwell retired as senior director of broadcasting in 2006. Maxwell was instrumental in the production of 32 Super Bowls, numerous Hall of Fame and AFC-NFC Pro Bowl games and several international American Bowls.

He has served as a member of the BGSU Journalism Advisory Board, and has given numerous guest lectures in BGSU journalism, public relations, and sport management courses. In advance of the 2006 Super Bowl XL in Detroit, Maxwell arranged for seven NFL and Super Bowl executives to participate in a highly successful panel presentation at BGSU.

Maxwell has been inducted into the BGSU Kappa Tau Alpha Journalism Hall of Fame and the Fostoria (Ohio) Athletic Hall of Fame.
